Ceanothus - 'Tilden Park'

A Fast Growing Plant that is Frost hardy and Drought Tolerant, it form is Spreading and arching, it is classed as a Medium Border Plant (50-180cm height) and has Dark blue Flowers in July, (earlier in the south) and Dark green Foliage

This medium sized Ceanothus is a dense growing evergreen shrub that bears masses of clusters of blue flowers in spring and early summer. Dense dark green foliage is attractive all year round. Good for wall training. 2m tall by 2m spread. Ideal at the back of the border as a dark back drop or for a fast growing screen.

 Ceanothus will tolerate a wide range of soil types as long as they are well drained. For best results plant in a warm sheltered spot in full sun. It is a tough plant that is well suited to hot dry spots where it will flourish in the poorest of soils. Prune lightly to shape in early Spring.

Spiraea nipponica - 'Snowmound'
(Bridal Wreath, Spiraea)

This shrub is a multi-stemmed plant which is suitable for hedging and screening, it is deciduous, with a spreading arching habit, it is a medium border plant (50-180cm height) with white flowers (Summer), and medium green Foliage. It is a very hardy tough plant, drought tolerant and low/easy maintenance.

This early flowering Spiraea produces a profusion of white blossom in late spring, and bears silver green foliage. Ideal as a low hedge or for planting in the border, this dense shrub produces arching stems. 1m high x 1m wide.

Birdal Wreath will flourish in a variety of garden soils but some struggle in very chalky soils as they Preferring full sun, Spiraea's will also tolerate some shade but may produce less blossom as a result. Fully hardy this shrub will tolerate some exposure and taller up right varieties can be grown as a loose hedge or screen. Prune after flowering, removing older wood and spent flowers. Mulch occasionally to feed.

The Fuchsia is a genus of flowering plants that consists mostly of shrubs or small trees. The first, Fuchsia triphylla, was discovered on the Caribbean island of Hispaniola about 1696–1697

Ceanothus - 'Puget Blue' (Californian Lilac, Ceanothus)

This is a multi-stemmed evergreen shrub which provides good ground cover. The rounded Multi-Stemmed bush produces light blue Flowers (Summer early) on Dark green Foliage. It is a medium border plant (50-180cm height) is frost hardy, drought tolerant and seaside friendly. This tough Plant will require some maintenance.

This medium to large Ceanothus is a dense growing evergreen shrub that bears masses of tight clusters of light blue flowers in spring / early summer. Dense dark green foliage is attractive all Year round. 2m tall by 2m spread.

Ceanothus will tolerate a wide range of soil types as long as they are well drained. For best results plant in a warm sheltered spot full sun and make best use of this tough plant by using it in hot dry problem spots where it will flourish in the poorest of soils. Ceanothus do not appreciate the cold or shade. Prune lightly to shape in early Spring.

Sun loving drought tolerant plant; Scented blossom; All round tough plant suitable for problem areas; Ideal for fast growing screening; Evergreen foliage for all year round colour and screening; Suitable for container growing; Suitable for exposed coastal planting; Attractive form or foliage for all year interest; Tolerates full sun and sandy, drought-prone soils.

The plant's weaknesses is Invasive top growth.


Lily

Lilium  is a genus of herbaceous flowering plants growing from bulbs, all with large prominent flowers.


Brachyglottis 'Sunshine'

Brachyglottis is a Multi-stemmed, tough evergreen, ground cover shrub with a spreading clump habit, it is a medium border plant (50-180cm height) that has yellow flowers (Summer), and silver foliage. It is very hardy, drought tolerant and seaside friendly. Being a fast growing plant it will require some maintenance.

This low maintenance shrub has distinctive elliptical silver foliage, producing rather garish yellow flowers throughout the summer. It contrasts well with golden and purple foliage plants, being suited to front to mid border planting.

This silver leaved sub shrub is both hardy and tolerant of most well drained soils, preferring a hot dry position in full sun where it can be left to form a reliable no-nonsense ground cover in the toughest of spots. It should be trimmed back to shape after flowering to retain shape but other than that should look after itself so just avoid shade and wet soils
.

Tips and Tricks


To change centre piece during the season plant an empty pot in the centre display


Then plant the bedding around the pot.

Place a potted plant in the centeral container
When the centre plant finishes flowering replace with another that is in bloom.( Sysirinchium 'E K Balls' )
Gravel over to disguise the central pot and prevent weed growth
When the centre plant finishes flowering replace with another  that is in bloom.

Has that old bird bath had it's day. Why not plant it up with Alpines.             Don't forget the drainage holes.
